Yet again, tragedy has struck. The casualty counts are rising still due to an explosion in Waco, Texas.
Yet again, some people have to nurture that nastiest parts of the hearts and speak so cruelly of such things.
I'll be straight forward and honest. I have no religion. No faith in some higher being out there.
But I'll tell you what I do have faith in.
Humanity.
I'm not gonna lie. We do a lot of fucked up shit. I can't even begin to count the ways we destroy and main and hurt those around us.
But those are the loud things. Every bad action is noticed far more fully than the daily kindnesses.
In the news, what is it we see? The bad. The depressing. The horrifying.
What do we miss? The smile to a stranger. A helping hand. Someone, somewhere is waiting on the fringes of all this destruction going on and they are picking up the pieces as they quietly go about their lives. And they AREN'T ALONE! There are many people who do good things for no reward, no recognition. For nothing other than the kindness of their heart.
I want to see more of that. And because I want to see it, I do. I see when a stranger smiles. When someone holds the door for another. When someone takes the time out of their day to give a simple compliment.
To those who are losing or have lost their faith in humanity, I urge you to hold strong and see above the loud hate of a few. Look to the quiet many waiting in the wings for a chance to help someone else learn how to fly.
Sorry for my journals lately. None have been about art, but each has been filled with passion nonetheless. I hope any who are feeling some amount of suffering may find themselves comforted by words, even if only in passing.
Love,
Me
